Starting out as Southern Backwoods Adventures®, the team has evolved the award winning SBA show in the a new era, a new breed, a new creation in outdoor television with the launch of The Backwoods Life.  The new Backwoods Life™ will show even more of an inside look into who Michael, Kevin, and Trey are on a more personal level all while showing the great hunts they journey into each year.

Working with some of the largest named in the outdoor industry has molded the three hosts into some of the most entertaining and marketable faces out there.  The guys have grown to new levels over the past years and are proud to say they are average folks living a dream.

a new adventure, and a new life...........The Backwoods Life™!

Brandon Carter -- Reel Shot Outdoors
Brandon Carter

Since he was a young child, Brandon Carter has dreamt of the day that he would have the opportunity to star on an outdoors television show. You see, Brandon wasn’t an ordinary child. When the other kids were playing with toys, Brandon had grunt calls and spinner baits. And when the other kids wanted to be firemen and policemen, Brandon wanted to be a professional fisherman. Well, his dreams came true. For the past 10 years, Brandon has been the owner and operator of Reel Shot Guide Service, one of the most recognized saltwater fishing outfitters on the Louisiana coast. Brandon has attracted anglers from around the world to experience light tackle fishing that is second to none. Some of these clients have even registered state and world records! Brandon has also been the winner of many tournaments and fishing rodeos. In addition to his fishing, Brandon has displayed an obsession for the pursuit of wild game. From Eastern gobblers to big rack bucks in West Texas, few can equal his skill. Those around him are constantly amazed at how he can get the one that seemed impossible.

Ronny Carter -- Reel Shot Outdoors

Ronny Carter began his outdoors career at a very early age.  At the age of 10, he was named top all around angler for Southeast Louisiana.  His mother, Rose, won top woman angler at the same event.  A little over 2 years later, he killed his first trophy buck, a feat unheard of in Louisiana at a time when just finding a deer track was big news.

Over the next 30+ years, Ronny developed fishing and hunting techniques that made him the subject of many conversations.  In 2001, he tied with Brandon for 1st place in the largest saltwater tournament in the county.  Ronny won the tie breaker and Brandon had to settle for 2nd place...out of 20,000 anglers!

Jodie CarterJodie Carter -- Reel Shot Outdoors

Jodie Carter began her obsession with the outdoors when she met Brandon. Since Brandon always seemed to be away either hunting or fishing, she decided that if you can’t beat 'em, join 'em and that’s what she did. She began by accompanying Brandon out on the boat or in a tree stand. It was at this time that she learned of her deep passion for the outdoors. Since then, she has become equally at home sight casting to tailing redfish or rattling in a mature trophy whitetail. It was no surprise that her abilities come so easy, as Jodie descends from a long line of Cajun outdoorsmen. In addition to her outdoor exploits, Jodie is also the resident nerd and tech geek of the Reel Shot Outdoors staff. She is the executive video editor and business office manager. She holds multiple degrees from Louisiana State University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Intelligence, beauty, and she can shoot a bow! What a dream come true!

Jim Stiltner

At age 13 I started hunting with my dad, who taught me all the in and outs of the sport and from that point on I knew hunting and archery would be a passion for life. Taking my first Pope & Young buck at age 18 got me even more addicted. Since then I haveJim Stilner takenseveral Pope & Young’s and continue on my quest year after year for that Booner. I also enjoy hunting small game, coyotes, turkey and bear with my bow. With many other big game animals on my list I’ve also added 3D shooting and helping to educate/teach others about the great sport of archery. Having several archery companies standing behind me as I stand behind them, I hope one day to turn my passion into a way of life.

Steve Hurd -- Closing the Distance

Steve Hurd

I started hunting Quail, Rabbit, and Squirrels with my Dad when I was 10 years old. I graduated to Whitetail Deer when I was 13 shooting my first deer, a spike, when I was 14. I was hooked ever since. I’m happily married to my wife, Autumn, and have three fantastic kids. I have two daughters Ashton and Taylor and a 10 year old son, Cooper. When I’m not chasing deer or hogs I coach baseball, play golf, fish or whatever else I can find to do in the outdoors. More than anything else, I have a passion for the thrill of bow hunting. It’s a passion I want to hand down to my son and one day my grandchildren.

Shane Steele-- Closing the Distance

Shane Steele

I've hunted most of my life. At age 10, my Uncle Gary took me hunting for the first time in Louisiana. I harvested a squirrel with a .410 shotgun and I was hooked. I haven't looked back since. I am employed in the Law Enforcement field in Fort Bend County Texas. I have been a peace officer since 1991. I have been married to my high school sweet heart, Jennifer for 18 years. I have two children, a boy and a girl. I love all things outdoors. When the weather gets rough, I love to do some bowling. I enjoy hunting because it gets me away from the daily stresses of life. When I am in a tree stand, a box blind or a tri-pod, I can forget about the world and just enjoy "mother nature". Filming another pro-staffer on a hunt is just as much of a challenge as hunting. It is a team effort so if I can get quality footage of the hunt, I get just as worked up as the hunter.
